The eyebrows play a vital role in an individual’s appearance. A browlift, also known as a forehead lift, is a procedure in which the forehead skin is repositioned and tightened to restore the natural beauty of the upper eyebrow and to create a more inviting gaze. Browlift surgery repositions drooping brows and decreases forehead wrinkles. This surgery used to involve a large incision across the top of the head with extensive recovery time, scars, permanent scalp numbness, and hair loss. Dr. Zimbler performs minimally invasive forehead lifting and mini temporal lifting that provide beautiful results without the extensive surgery of a traditional browlift. This state-of-the-art method not only diminishes scarring but dramatically speeds the recuperation process.

How do I know if browlift / forehead lift is right for me?

The eyebrow and forehead are often the first facial features to show the signs of aging. Heaviness of the upper eyelids and forehead can make a person appear angry, sad, or tired. Many patients have difficulty placing mascara on the upper eyelid because of the lower position of the brow. A forehead lift or browlift is used to correct a drooping browline and forehead wrinkles. The procedure creates a refreshed, youthful appearance to the forehead area by repositioning the eyebrow and rejuvenating the upper face.

Browlift / forehead lift procedure:

Browlift surgery begins with the placement of incisions. During a forehead lift, 4 small incisions are made discreetly within the hairline. The endoscope (a mini camera) is then placed through these small incisions for visualization. The entire forehead is lifted and repositioned to a more youthful height, and the eyebrow arch is re-established. In a mini browlift or temporal lift, only the outer part of the eyebrow arch is changed. Through a small incision placed just at the temporal hairline, a small lift can raise the lateral eyebrow and diminish a hooded look. This procedure is often combined with upper eyelid surgery for maximum results. For patients with more severe brow hooding, complete endoscopic procedures are strongly recommended. A browlift is often combined with a facelift or eyelid surgery to provide complete facial rejuvenation.

Browlift / forehead lift recovery time:

Most patients return to a normal schedule in a little over 1 week after browlift surgery. However, many patients feel well enough to return to normal activities after just a few days. Because the eyelids are particularly sensitive to swelling, a certain degree of bruising may occur. Because incisions are hidden in the hairline, scars are barely visible. Sutures are removed 1 week after surgery, and camouflage makeup can be applied thereafter. As incisions heal, you may experience some numbness or itching at the site. Discomfort is mild and can be reduced with oral medication. The application of cold ice packs is extremely important after surgery. Compresses should be applied the first few days to minimize bruising, swelling, and discomfort. This, along with specifically chosen natural supplements from Dr. Zimbler, will minimize bruising and expedite the recovery period. Showering is permitted 24 hours after surgery, which often increases one’s sense of well-being and return to normal routine. Light exercise can begin 1 week after surgery, but aerobic walking can resume after the first few days. As with any plastic surgery procedure, the healing process is gradual, but the benefits will last for years.

Browlift / forehead lift questions:

  1. Will the shape of my eyes change after browlift surgery?

Browlift surgery repositions the forehead and eyebrow. The eyes shape itself is not changed. If anything, it will improve excess upper eyelid skin folding and hooding.
  2. Will eyelid surgery replace my Botox® treatments?

While browlift surgery does raise the height of the eyebrow and skin, the muscle action is not blocked. Some of the muscles are removed during surgery but not completely. It is possible that Botox® may be required after surgery. The amount and frequency needed is often significantly reduced.
  3. I’m worried about my brow being too high and giving me a startled look. Are results subtle?

During your consultation with Dr. Zimbler, the height of the newly altered brow will be discussed in-depth. Dr. Zimbler strives for natural results that produce the smallest scars with long-lasting results. Raising the brow too high or having a hollowed eyelid look would contrast with Dr. Zimbler’s surgical philosophy.
  4. Does a browlift help crow’s feet?

A browlift is one of the most effective ways to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet and a hooded eyelid. During a browlift, the skin of your forehead is tightened to reduce the signs of wrinkles and to smooth out any irregularities that have come with age. Your eyebrows are also lifted during a browlift, which reduces crow’s feet around your eye.
