Necklift New York City

Necklift

A neck lift can mean different things to different people.  For some it means a ‘lower-facelift’ while for others it can mean simple neck liposuction.  A true neck lift involves both liposcutioning of the neck and tightening of the muscles under the chin called a platysmaplasty.  Which treatment is best for you will be determined at your consultation with Dr. Zimbler.

How do I know if a Necklift is right for me?

Neck skin laxity and wrinkles is often the first sign of aging.  The jaw line softens into jowls, and beneath the chin excess skin starts to sag. If you are concerned about the bands or ‘turkey waddle’ under your chin than neck lift surgery is for you.  Depending on your pre-operative concerns some patients are best suited for a lower-facelift and others with just a neck-lift.

Necklift Procedure:

The surgery begins with the exact placement of the incision in a natural crease under the chin. Through this incision liposuctioning is performed and the muscles of the neck are tightened to re-establish neck contour.  This procedure is typically performed with sedation anesthesia and takes approximately one hour.  Not infrequently a neck-lift is combined with other facial cosmetic procedures such as a chin implant or facelift.

Necklift Recovery Time:

Most patients are presentable one week after surgery, however many patients are up and about within the first few days. The neck can be particularly sensitive, and a certain degree of swelling and bruising is to be expected. Because the incision is placed under the chin scars are barely visible.  A head wrap is worn for the first 24 hours after surgery and a head band is encouraged for the first post-operative week.  Dr. Zimbler does not use drains after the procedure, making recovery more comfortable and the healing faster.  Sutures are removed several days after surgery and camouflage makeup can be applied at one week. As incisions heal, you may experience some numbness or itching at the site.  Discomfort is mild and easily controlled with oral medication.  The application of cold ice pads is extremely comforting after surgery and compresses should be applied the first few days to minimize bruising and swelling.  This, along with specifically chosen natural supplements Dr. Zimbler prescribes will minimize bruising and speed up the recovery period. Healing is completed gradually, well after bruising and swelling has subsided.  As with any plastic surgery procedure, the healing process is gradual but the benefits will last for years.  Showering is permitted 24 hours after surgery which often increases the patient’s sense of well being and return to normal routine.  Light exercise can be started 2 weeks after surgery however aerobic walking can resume after the first week.
